Photos and passions

3 03 2011

Today I watched a segment of a morning talk show. They were interviewing a woman who will be 100 this fall. She is remarkable. Her name is Ruth Gruber. At the age of 20 she earned her PhD, the youngest person, man or woman, to do that back in her day. She went on to become a correspondent, photographer, author, and champion of the underdog. She heard Adolph Hitler speak in person, as he called for death to the Jews, death to America, was at the Nuremberg trials, took pictures of the refugees on board a ship bound for America right after WWII….the list goes on. What an amazing woman.

Now, I want to read her books, especially ‘Haven’. I want to see what her life was like, living in the kind of history she witnessed, wrote about, and photographed. I feel very humble after checking her out on the internet. She leaves a real legacy for those of us who follow behind.

I only hope to be worthy.
