Reading for writers (and other readers)

19 01 2011

I have had a favorite author for a while. She has the uncanny ability to write each book as though it is the only one she has ever written. Each is fresh and new and unlike any other. Her name is Anita Shreve. She has several titles out there, and I am sad to say that there are only two more that I haven’t read. Sad, because then I don’t have a new book from her to look forward to. I can only aspire to write as well as she does.

Anita’s subjects are not always easy to read about. Some are a bit disturbing. But they are so well written, and the language is just beautiful. She paints pictures with her words. I want to paint pictures with words!

I know not everyone who runs out and buys or checks out her books will love them as much as I do. But I just thought I’d share.

I’d love to hear about some of your favorites.
